Toledo Opera has named Kevin Bylsma and James (Jim) Norman co-artistic directors of the Toledo Opera.
Company Executive Director Suzanne Rorick announced: “With their combined decades of opera experience, Kevin Bylsma and Jim Norman bring an exciting blend of knowledge and musical expertise to the artistic vision of opera. of Toledo. “
Bylsma was head of musical preparation for the Toledo Opera from 1997 to 2003 and was the rehearsal pianist and prepared adult and children’s choirs for all productions. He returned to the company in 2011 to reprise his role.
During this time, Norman began with Toledo Opera as a member of the choir, singing small roles between 1981-2000. He then worked as the Opera production coordinator in 2012.
In addition to the responsibilities associated with his current role as Production Manager, Norman will be responsible for season planning with executive management. In collaboration with Bylsma, he will also be responsible for the selection of the main artists, designers and directors for all productions of the Toledo Opera.
The Toledo opera house is expected to present three productions this season, including “Il Trovatore”, “La Traviata” and “Blue”.
