Honors Jane Tyree and Dan Guin of Boca Ballet at the Star Maker Awards
The National Society of Arts & Letters of Florida will be holding its long-awaited annual Star Maker Awards on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wick Theater and Costume Museum in Boca Raton. Boca Ballet Theater Co-Artistic Directors Jane Tyree and Dan Guin will be the recipients of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Guests will also be treated to performances by the talented winners of the Society’s national and local scholarships and competitions. âThis event marks the 40th anniversary of our organizatione anniversary serving Florida’s young performing and visual artists through our scholarship, competition and mentorship program, âsaid Kim Champion, event chair. âTo honor this milestone and all of our loyal members and supporters who have stood steadfast through these difficult times, we have gone out of our way to create a spectacular program.â
Honorary Chair, Marilynn Wick, along with Event Co-Chairs Shari Upbin and Marcie Gorman and Fellowship Chair Alyce Erickson created an evening to entertain and inspire.
The performances will feature National Voice Fellowship recipient Melissa Martinez and National Voice Competition winner Ashley Elizabeth Shalna as well as Local Music Fellowship recipients, violinist Daniel Guevara, pianist Klyde Lodamo and the oboist Kari Jenks.
âThe event will also include an exhibition of works by Fabien Henry Lilavois, Zaine Lodhi and Karina Alexandra Rodriguez, winners of national scholarships in the visual arts category and a video presentation of our award-winning national dancer, Gabby Garbarini,â said Marci. Gorman, co-chair of the event.

Renowned performers, choreographers and instructors, Guin and Tyree have made BBT one of the best civic companies in the country, presenting professional productions with world-class guest artists. BBT’s prestigious non-profit dance school has propelled many successful students onto the world’s most prestigious stages.

NSAL aims to discover talented young people at the start of their careers and offers scholarships and competitions in the fields of art, dance, theater, literature, music and musical theater, and strives to advance their careers and creative opportunities. Excelling at the chapter level allows competitors to progress to national competitions and here many stars have been discovered including Shirley MacLaine, actress / dancer / writer; Jessye Norman, opera singer; Megan Hilty, Broadway and TV star; Awadagin Pratt, pianist; and Amanda McKerrow, principal dancer and opera star Nadine Sierra, discovered through NSAL Florida.
