Laredo College Opera Workshop: “We’re Back: Double Problem”

Opera theater

The Opera Workshops are back at Laredo College with a comedy that will make the Center des Beaux-Arts de Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez laugh.

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Laredo College will be bringing humorous characters to life in the fall 2021 production of “We’re Back: Double Trouble,” consisting of two one-act opera pieces – “L ‘ Impressario ”and“ Il Fornicazione (Adultery). ). ”

The Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra Brass Ensemble will join in a special performance.

“The Impresario” is a short one-act comic opera by Mozart, with a new screenplay and lyrics written by music and vocal teacher LC Joseph Crabtree where auditions for two prima donnas compete for the same role and the disastrous production that follows, which brings us to “Il Fornicazione (Adultery)”. Anything that can go wrong in production does. The actors will take the audience through the hassle that the actors, the orchestra and everyone else go through in order for the production to take place.

The van that brings the orchestra to the theater is involved in an accident, and the only musicians who show up are the conductor and the triangle player, leaving the singers to fend for themselves without accompaniment. Wardrobe malfunctions, lighting issues, beeps going wrong, and sets falling off all contribute to the absurdity of the production.

Around 17 talented actors, singers and dancers of all ages will fill the stage with humor at the end of September. Even though some actors do not have previous experience, they do have singing or acting skills, problem solving skills, and a team player mentality. Many of these actors were part of the opera musical theater course and theater internship at LC and have appeared in previous opera workshops. The experience they acquired within our institution has helped them develop and hone their theatrical skills.

Bring your family and friends to the MFA Theater September 23-25 at 7:30 p.m. or September 26 at 3:00 p.m. to witness this unique spectacle. Entrance tickets cost just $ 10, and all funds raised will go towards scholarships for future productions. The event is open to the public. LC adheres to all protocols and guidelines necessary to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
