After a centennial season canceled due to COVID and another season held outdoors at Summit Park (again due to COVID), the Cincinnati Opera House is returning home to Music Hall for 2022.
The recently released season lineup begins June 18, 2022 and includes “a full season of five operas – including two world premieres and unreleased productions in Cincinnati – as well as creative collaborations with singers, conductors, directors and designers. renowned, such as the Cincinnati Opera Chorus, the Cincinnati Ballet and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, ”the Cincinnati Opera said in a statement.

Then, at SCPA’s Corbett Theater, guests can attend premieres of Fierce (July 6 and 8) and Beaver and Patience (July 22, 24, 26, 28 and 30).
“As the arts reopen and the Cincinnati stages come to life, we can’t wait to return home to Music Hall and SCPA,” said Evans Mirageas, artistic director of the Cincinnati Opera, in a statement. “For audiences, we hope this will be both a welcome return to form and an exciting leap forward – an unmissable chapter in the vibrant history of Cincinnati opera.”
Fierce – featuring a libretto by Northern Kentucky novelist Sheila Williams and a score by local William Menefield – was originally set to premiere in 2020 for the Cincinnati Opera’s 100th anniversary, but has been postponed due to COVID.
The production examines “four teenage girls struggling with school, family and friendship as each embarks on a transformative journey to empowerment and self-confidence,” according to the Cincinnati Opera.
Williams interviewed young people from WorldPlay Cincy and the Music Resource Center to build the story. Students of i.imagine’s photography program will also help promote the program. D. Lynn Meyers of the Cincinnati Ensemble Theater will make her Cincinnati Opera debut as artistic director and playwright of the show.
Another world premiere which was scheduled for the opera’s centenary but which has also been postponed, will now take the stage in 2022.
From the team behind the famous Cincinnati Opera House Travel companions come Beaver and Patience. With music by Gregory Spears and a libretto by Pulitzer Prize winner and former American poet laureate Tracy K. Smith, “the opera centers on two cousins of an African-American family who find themselves at odds over the comes out of a historic piece of land they inherited from the southern United States, ”reads the description of the Cincinnati opera house. “Deeply relevant to ongoing calls for racial justice, Beaver and Patience investigates historical and enduring obstacles to black land ownership in the United States. “
Subscriptions for the 2022 Cincinnati Opera season will go on sale in January and single tickets will be available in spring 2022.
