The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Mark Wigglesworth as their new Principal Guest Conductor.
Wigglesworth has performed with the world’s greatest opera houses such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera House, the English National Opera, the Welsh National Opera and La Monnaie, among others. The conductor has also conducted orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony, the New York Philharmonic and the Royal Concertgebouw.
“Mark’s reputation as a world-renowned conductor in both concert hall and opera represents a tremendous opportunity for the BSO and its audiences throughout the South West. While the pandemic has presented a variety of challenges, forging this close creative partnership has been wonderful – with a clear and obvious rapport, together Mark and the orchestra are creating top notch music. We can’t wait to get started, ”BSO Managing Director Dougie Scarfe said in an official press release.

The magnificent way the orchestra has responded to the pandemic has made it very clear to me the commitment the entire organization has to its audience and to the music itself. They kept music alive when we all needed it most and without a doubt proved the vital role music plays in helping us stay connected, inspired and hopeful, ”Wigglesworth noted of of his appointment.
Wigglesworth will join the orchestra in the 2021-22 season. His contract will be valid for a period of three years.
